SOCIAL STUDIES/GEOGRAPHY/HISTORY
JC Schools - A list of Interactive Social Studies websites for all ages.
Mission US - Mission US is an interactive adventure game designed to improve the understanding of American history by students in grades 5 through 8.
Apple 4 Social Studies - Interactive games and lessons to use with projector or interactive white board. Site is for elementary but I found some of the lessons/games to be good for upper grades as well. Good GEOGRAPHY class/lessons. The Know Your Country Hangman game is difficult but very good. Need Java.
GEOGRAPHY
Sheppard Software - GREAT online interactive games for all things geographical. Students can do independently or on an interactive white board. OR can be teacher led projection. Keeps timed and percentage correct statistics each session so can create individual/group competitions. I have used with students and can personally recommend the Level 2 Capitals game. Requires Adobe Flash Player.
GEOgame - To play a GeoGame, you and your students can select one or more of the current games. Then your students, with help from maps, atlases, and other reference materials, match the description of each location in the game with the name of the corresponding city. After the students have decided the answers to the game, you enter your answers into the form at the top of the game page. If all of your answers are correct a certificate will be presented to print out and post on your bulletin board. Best for 4th through 6th grade but can be used for other classes.
